Can't install CrawlProtect

Hi

I use CrawlTrack. Most my pages are only HTML but still CrawlTrack works fine.
Now I also want to install CrawlProtect.

So I download the files, extract, upload on my website, go to my URL, try to install by registering but get the following error:

CrawlProtect is unable to create a file in the crawlprotect folder

Try to CHMOD that folder, CHMOD 0755 should be OK

I tried CHMOD 0775 and 0755 but none of them make it work.

What can I try?

Thanks, funny1.

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

I think I understood what I was doing wrong.

When I extracted the crawlprotect folder, there is another folder inside it with the same name.

I accidentally copied this second folder on my website, while what I should do would be to just copy the parent folder.

Ok

But now I get another error:
When I try to visit my crawlprotect URL, it gives me a 403 error.

Can someone help me with this?

Hi,

What is your CrawlProtect folder chmod?

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

I don't know if this has to do with it but my .htaccess file I modified it (long time ago) to give me customised 403 errors. Could this be involved?

Hi,

Could you send me by mail your htaccess file?

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

Hi,

Your htaccess file isn't the cause of the error.

Looking at your second message:

I accidentally copied this second folder on my website, while what I should do would be to just copy the parent folder.

What is exactly your CrawlProtect folders structure?

It should be:
   -crawlprotect1-8-0  -cache
                                  -geoipdatabase
                                  -graphs
                                  -htaccess
                                  -images
                                  -language
                                  -noaccess

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

Well then I had it correctly in the beginning.

So I go back to the initial error:

CrawlProtect is unable to create a file in the crawlprotect folder

Try to CHMOD that folder, CHMOD 0755 should be OK.

And trying CHMOD 0755 doesn't work.

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

Hi

You didn't send me an email yet but I checked your site and it seems you made a new version of CrawlProtect on 3rd of July. Is that right?

So I'm trying again to install.

After I upload the folder in my website and I visit my URL, it doesn't let me chose a language and instead it says:

To be compatible with your hosting, CrawlProtect need to use a MySQL database, so please complete the configconnect.php file with your MySQL connection informations and then restart the installation process (the file is in the include folder of your CrawlProtect).

So I open this file and I find the following:
$crawltuser="login";    //your MySQL login        Votre login MySQL
$crawltpassword="password";    //your MySQL password        Votre mot de passe MySQL
$crawltdb="database-name";    //your MySQL database name     Le nom de votre base de données MySQL
$crawlthost="server-name";    //your MySQL server name     Le nom de votre serveur MySQL

So I wanted to ask you:
Where exactly I should put my information? For example if my login name is PAUL, then the first line should become:
$crawltuser="PAUL";    //your MySQL login        Votre login MySQL

Is that right?

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

Hi,

Yes exactly, it should be something like that:

$crawltuser="Paul";    //your MySQL login        Votre login MySQL
$crawltpassword="azG85hbvCC";    //your MySQL password        Votre mot de passe MySQL
$crawltdb="crawlprotectbase";    //your MySQL database name     Le nom de votre base de données MySQL
$crawlthost="localhost";    //your MySQL server name     Le nom de votre serveur MySQL

It's only example, use your own datas.

Re: Can't install CrawlProtect

Hi
Thanks.
I finally got this program to work and it seems good.

I have a problem though. Whenever I try to visit my Crawlprotect URL, instead of just asking me for my name and password, it gives me the page that says: Installation
You only need to choose a login and a password below to set-up CrawlProtect.

In other words I always have to add my password twice in order to log in my account (and hence I can't save the password on my browser).
